Moves this to be the first check, as it's very simple and fails the
registration earlier, instead of potentially initializing the
'indio_dev->label' and checking for duplicate indexes, and then failing
with this simple-check.
This is a minor optimization, since '__iio_device_register()' will waste
fewer validation cycles in case 'indio_dev->info' is NULL.

This field doesn't seem used. It seems that only 'buffer->attrs' was ever
used to extend sysfs attributes for an IIO buffer.
Moving forward, it may not make sense to keep it. This patch removes the
field and it's initialization code.
Since we want to rework IIO buffer, to be able to add more buffers per IIO
device, we will merge [somehow] the 'buffer' & 'scan_elements' groups, and
we will continue to add the attributes to the 'buffer' group.
Removing it here, will also make the rework here a bit smaller, since
this code will not be present.

The IIO DMA buffer is a DMA buffer implementation. As such it should
include buffer_impl.h rather than buffer.h.
The include to buffer.h in buffer-dma.h should be buffer_impl.h so it has
access to the struct iio_buffer definition. The code currently only works
because all places that use buffer-dma.h include buffer_impl.h before it.
The include to buffer.h in industrialio-buffer-dma.c can be removed since
those file does not reference any of buffer consumer functions.

The AD9467 is a 16-bit, monolithic, IF sampling analog-to-digital converter
(ADC). It is optimized for high performanceover wide bandwidths and ease of
use. The product operates at a 250 MSPS conversion rate and is designed for
wireless receivers, instrumentation, and test equipment that require a high
dynamic range. The ADC requires 1.8 V and 3.3 V power supplies and a low
voltage differential input clock for full performance operation. No
external reference or driver components are required for many applications.
Data outputs are LVDS compatible (ANSI-644 compatible) and include the
means to reduce the overall current needed for short trace distances.
Since the chip can operate at such high sample-rates (much higher than
classical interfaces), it requires that a DMA controller be used to
interface directly to the chip and push data into memory.
Typically, the AXI ADC IP core is used to interface with it.

This change adds support for the Analog Devices Generic AXI ADC IP core.
The IP core is used for interfacing with analog-to-digital (ADC) converters
that require either a high-speed serial interface (JESD204B/C) or a source
synchronous parallel interface (LVDS/CMOS).
Usually, some other interface type (i.e SPI) is used as a control interface
for the actual ADC, while the IP core (controlled via this driver), will
interface to the data-lines of the ADC and handle the streaming of data
into memory via DMA.
Because of this, the AXI ADC driver needs the other SPI-ADC driver to
register with it. The SPI-ADC needs to be register via the SPI framework,
while the AXI ADC registers as a platform driver. The two cannot be ordered
in a hierarchy as both drivers have their own registers, and trying to
organize this [in a hierarchy becomes] problematic when trying to map
memory/registers.
There are some modes where the AXI ADC can operate as standalone ADC, but
those will be implemented at a later point in time.

Currently, when using a 'iio_dmaengine_buffer_alloc()', an matching call to
'iio_dmaengine_buffer_free()' must be made.
With this change, this can be avoided by using
'devm_iio_dmaengine_buffer_alloc()'. The buffer will get free'd via the
device's devres handling.

The 'size_t' type behaves differently on 64-bit architectures, and causes
compiler a warning of the sort "format '%u' expects argument of type
'unsigned int', but argument 3 has type 'size_t {aka long unsigned int}'".
This change adds the correct specifier for the 'align' field.

This change uses the read_avail and '.info_mask_shared_by_type_available'
modifier to set the available scale.
Essentially, nothing changes to the driver's ABI.
The main idea for this patch is to remove the AD7793 driver from
checkpatch's radar. There have been about ~3 attempts to fix/break the
'in_voltage-voltage_scale_available' attribute, because checkpatch assumed
it to be an arithmetic operation and people were trying to change that.

Before activating a buffer make sure that at least one channel is enabled.
Activating a buffer with 0 channels enabled doesn't make too much sense and
disallowing this case makes sure that individual driver don't have to add
special case code to handle it.
Currently, without this patch enabling a buffer is possible and no error is
produced. With this patch -EINVAL is returned.
An example of execution with this patch and some instrumented print-code:

snprintf() is a hard-to-use function, it's especially difficult to use
it for concatenating substrings in a buffer with a limited size.
Since snprintf() returns the would-be-output size, not the actual
size, the subsequent use of snprintf() may go beyond the given limit
easily. Although the current code doesn't actually overflow the
buffer, it's an incorrect usage.
This patch replaces such snprintf() calls with a safer version,
scnprintf().
Also this fixes the incorrect argument of the buffer limit size passed
to snprintf(), too. The size has to be decremented for the remaining
length.

The BMI088 is pin-compatible with the BMI055, and provides
both gyro and accel functions. The gyro part is similar to
the BMI055 and this adds the chip to the list of supported
devices for the gyro part.
The accel part of the chip is not compatible with anything
existing already.

Commit 3862828a90 ("iio: buffer: Switch to bitmap_zalloc()") introduced
bitmap_alloc(), but commit 20ea39ef9f ("iio: Fix scan mask selection")
reverted it.
This change adds it back. The only difference is that it's adding
bitmap_zalloc(). There might be some changes later that would require
initializing it to zero. In any case, now it's already zero-ing the
trialmask.
Appears to have been the result of merge conflict resolution rather
than an intentional revert.

This change gets rid of the AD_SD_*_CHANNEL macros in favor of defining
it's own. The ad7780 is quite simpler than it's other Sigma-Delta brothers.
It turned out that centralizing the AD_SD_*_CHANNEL macros doesn't scale
too well, especially with some more complicated drivers. Some of the
variations in the more complicated drivers require new macros, and that way
things can become harder to maintain.

Report the maximum amount of sample the EC can hold.
This is not tunable, but can be useful for application to find out the
maximum amount of time it can sleep when hwfifo_timeout is set to a
large number.

Expose EC minimal interrupt period through buffer/hwfifo_timeout:
- Maximal timeout is limited to 65s.
- When timeout for all sensors is set to 0, EC will not send events,
even if the sensor sampling rate is greater than 0.
Rename frequency to sampling_frequency to match IIO ABI.

Since cros_ec_sensorhub is shutting down the FIFO when the device
suspends, no need to slow down the EC sampling period rate.
It was necesseary to do that before command CMD_FIFO_INT_ENABLE was
introduced, but now all supported chromebooks have it.

When EC supports FIFO, each IIO device registers a callback, to put
samples in the buffer when they arrives from the FIFO.
When no FIFO, the user space app needs to call trigger_new, or better
register a high precision timer.

Some IIO devices may want to override the default (realtime) to another
clock source by default.
It can beneficial when timestamps coming from the hardware or underlying
drivers are already in that format.
It can always be overridden by attribute current_timestamp_clock.

st_lsm6dsx suffers of a read misalignment on untagged FIFO when
all 3 supported sensors (accel, gyro and ext device) are running
at different ODRs (the use-case is reported in the LSM6DSM Application
Note at pag 100).
Fix the issue taking into account decimation factor reading the FIFO
pattern.

This patch adds support for the Azoteq IQS624 and IQS625 angular position
sensors, capable of reporting the angle of a rotating shaft down to 1 and
10 degrees of accuracy, respectively.
This patch also introduces a home for linear and angular position sensors.
Unlike resolvers, they are typically contactless and use the Hall effect.

This patch adds support for the Azoteq IQS621 and IQS622 ambient light
sensors, both of which can report a four-bit representation of ambient
light intensity.
The IQS621 can additionally report illuminace directly in units of lux,
while the IQS622 can report a four-bit representation of infrared light
intensity. Furthermore, the IQS622 can report a unitless measurement of
a target's proximity to the device.

AD7091R is already supported by this driver. While AD7091R allows the
choice of an internal or an external voltage reference, for AD7091 the
reference is only provided by VDD. Since this information is anyway
obtained through the "vcc" regulator, no other driver changes are
required for adding AD7091 support as well.

When CONVST signal is generated internally, IIO_CHAN_INFO_RAW can be

Compared to the other supported parts, AD7091R are dependent of
a CONVST signal that initiates the conversion. At this moment, only
sampling in buffered mode is supported for AD7091R and the only
option until now was to generate this signal externally using an
IIO trigger. This patch adds the option of generating it internally,
more compatible triggers being available in this case.
Also, it is an intermediate step of adding support more devices.

There is no need to call unaligned helpers on stack placed variables
because compiler will align them correctly, accordingly to architectural
ABI. Moreover, using bitwise type makes it explicit to see what we are
reading in bulk transfer. On top of that, use sizeof() instead of
magic value.

The iio_triggered_buffer_{predisable,postenable} functions attach/detach
the poll functions.
For the predisable hook, the disable code should occur before detaching
the poll func, and for the postenable hook, the poll func should be
attached before the enable code.
This change moves the postenable/predisable hooks into the correct
positions.

The iio_triggered_buffer_{predisable,postenable} functions attach/detach
the poll functions.
For the predisable hook, the disable code should occur before detaching
the poll func, and for the postenable hook, the poll func should be
attached before the enable code.
The lmp9100 was attaching a poll function but never detaching it via any
IIO disable hook.
This change adds the detaching of the poll function, and moves/renames
lmp91000_buffer_preenable() function to lmp91000_buffer_postenable().
The idea is to make it more symmetrical, so that when the
iio_triggered_buffer_{predisable,postenable} functions get removed, it's
easier to see.

Add suspend/resume PM sleep ops to stm32-timer-trigger driver.
Register contents may be lost depending on low power modes.
When going to low power, enforce the timer isn't active. Gracefully
restore its state upon resume in case it's been left enabled prior to
suspend.

This patch adds a TODO file with some work items added with reference to
the conversation in [1].
A TODO file is immensely useful while onboarding new contributors who
are looking for some low hanging fruit to get their foot into the door.
Since these items affect all drivers the file has been placed in the
root iio directory instead of augmenting the staging TODO.

The ACCES 104-QUAD-8 series does active filtering on the quadrature
input signals via the PC/104 bus clock (OSC 14.318 MHz). This patch
exposes the filter clock prescaler available on each channel.

InvenSense ICP-101xx sensors are a family of barometric pressure
and temperature sensor.
These devices are I2C only and use a specific protocol of
commands/responses. Data transfer is secured by using crc8.
Driver provides processed pressure and raw temperature data.

Currently iio_debugfs_read_reg calls debugfs_reg_access
every time it is ran. Reading the same hardware register
multiple times during the same reading of a debugfs file
can cause unintended effects.
For example for each: cat iio:device0/direct_reg_access
the file_operations.read function will be called at least
twice. First will return the full length of the string in
bytes and the second will return 0.
This patch makes iio_debugfs_read_reg to call debugfs_reg_access
only when the user's buffer position (*ppos) is 0. (meaning
it is the beginning of a new reading of the debugfs file).

`delay_usecs` with `delay` for this driver.
The `spi_transfer_delay_exec()` function [in the SPI framework] makes sure
that both `delay_usecs` & `delay` are used (in this order to preserve
backwards compatibility).

This change adds support for the HMC1119 Silicon Digial Attenuator. The
HMC1119 is a broadband, highly accurate, 7-bit digital attenuator,
operating from 0.1 GHz to 6.0 GHz with 31.5 dB attenuation control range
in 0.25 dB steps.

The chip is configured in 24 bit mode. The values read from
it must always be treated as is. This fixes the issue by
replacing the previous 16 bits value by a 24 bits buffer.
This changes affects the value output by previous version of
the driver, since the least significant byte was missing.
The upper half of 16 bit values previously output are now
the upper half of a 24 bit value.

The AD5770R is a 6-channel, 14-bit resolution, low noise, programmable
current output digital-to-analog converter (DAC) for photonics control
applications.
It contains five 14-bit resolution current sourcing DAC channels and one

The look-up-table for currens to lux is simply specifying
all currents from 5..47 mA, if we add some values for 0..5
we can just select the index for the lux value in an array
from the mA value. Use clamp() to get the value in the
range of values in the array.

Atlas Scientific DO-SM OEM sensor reads disolved oxygen in
a solution. This is reported back as mg/L which maps directly
to ppm and so the IIO_CONCENTRATION channel type can be used.

Sensors don't actually need a interrupt line to give valid readings,
and can triggered with CONFIG_IIO_HRTIMER_TRIGGER as well. Remove
the required check for interrupt, and continue along in the probe
function.

Temperature sensor works correctly only when accel and/or gyro
is turned on. Prevent polling value if they are not running.
Anyway it doesn't make sense to use it without sensor engines
on.

Use runtime power management for handling chip power and
sensor engines on/off. Simplifies things a lot since pm
runtime already has reference counter.
Usage of autosuspend reduces the number of power on/off. This
makes polling interface now usable to get data at low
frequency.

When reading data with the polling interface, we need to wait
at 1 sampling period to have a sample.
For gyroscope and magnetometer, we need to wait for 2 periods
before having a correct sample.
Not suitable for stable or backporting.

Rewrite clock management to use automatic clock switching
present since MPU6500.
Sensors engine management can now turn on or off a batch of
sensors which simplifies usage a lot.
Temperature sensor is now turned on/off depending on usage.

Turning vdd regulator on requires a consequent sleep for the
chip to power on correctly.
Turning vddio regulator is much faster.

Old chips using spi require for a full reset to manually reset
all signal path. This does not harm when using i2c so do it
inconditionally. Exclude i2c only chips.

i2c auxiliary mux is done by analog switches. You do not need to
set them for every i2c transfer.
Just set i2c bypass bit at init and do noting in i2c de/select.

Clock should be enabled as soon as using master modes, even before
enabling timer. Or, this may provoke bad behavior on the other end
(slave timer). Then, introduce 'clk_enabled' flag, instead of relying
on CR1 EN bit, to keep track of clock being enabled (balanced refcount).
Propagate this anywhere else in the driver.
Also add 'remove' routine to stop timer and disable clock in case it
has been left enabled. Enforce the user interface has been unregistered
in the remove routine, before disabling the hardware to avoid possible
race. So, remove use of devm_ variant to register triggers and unregister
them before the hardware gets disabled [1].

All actions done in `adis16480_initial_setup()` are now done in
`__adis_initial_startup()` so, there's no need for code duplication.
Furthermore, the call to `adis16480_initial_setup()` is done before any
device configuration since the device will be reset if not already (via
rst pin). This is actually fixing a potential bug since `adis_reset()` was
being called after configuring the device which is obviously a problem.

Each driver/chip that wants to validate it's product id, can now
specify a 'prod_id_reg' and an expected 'prod_id' value.
The 'prod_id' value is intentionally left 0 (uninitialized). There aren't
(yet) any product IDs with value 0; this enforces that both 'prod_id_reg'
and 'prod_id' are specified.
At the very least, this routine validates that the SPI connection to the
ADIS chip[s] works well.

All the ADIS devices perform, at the beginning, a self test to make sure
the device is in a sane state. Previously, the logic was that the self-test
was performed in adis_initial_startup() and if that failed a reset was done
and then a self-test was attempted again.
This change unifies the reset mechanism under the adis_initial_startup()
call. A HW reset will be done if GPIO is configured, or a SW reset
otherwise. This should make sure that the chip is in a sane state for
self-test. Once the reset is done, the self-test operation will be
performed. If anything goes wrong with self-test, the driver should just
bail/error-out (i.e. no second attempt). The chip would likely not be a in
a sane state state if the self-test fails after a reset.

This patch adds a dedicated self_test_reg variable. This is also a step
to let new drivers make use of `adis_initial_startup()`. Some devices
use MSG_CTRL reg to request a self_test command while others use the
GLOB_CMD register.

This change splits the __adis_initial_startup() away from
adis_initial_startup(). The unlocked version can be used in certain calls
during probe, where races won't happen since the ADIS driver may not be
registered yet with IIO.

structure"). It removes the memory allocation and moves the 'adis_data'
information to be static on the chip_info struct.
This also adds a timeout structure to ADIS16334, since it was initially
omitted. This was omitted (by accident) when the change was done.

SPS30 uses triggered buffer, but the dependency is not specified in the

Vishay has published a new version of "Designing the VCNL4200 Into an
Application" application note in October 2019. The new version specifies
that there is +-20% of part to part tolerance. Although the application
note is related to vcnl4200, according to support the vcnl4040's "ASIC
is quite similar to that one for the VCNL4200".
So update the sampling periods (and comment), including the correct
sampling period for proximity. Both sampling periods are lower. Users
relying on the blocking behaviour of reading will get proximity
measurements much earlier.

Vishay has published a new version of "Designing the VCNL4200 Into an
Application" application note in October 2019. The new version specifies
that there is +-20% of part to part tolerance. This explains the drift
seen during experiments. The proximity pulse width is also changed from
32us to 30us. According to the support, the tolerance also applies to
ambient light.
So update the sampling periods. As the reading is blocking, current
users may notice slightly longer response time.

At the moment, reading from in_magn_*_raw in sysfs tends to return
large values around 65000, even though the output of ak8974 is actually
limited to ±32768. This happens because the value is never converted
to the signed 16-bit integer variant.
Add an explicit cast to s16 to fix this.

Master mode should be disabled when stopping. This mainly impacts
possible other use-case after timer has been stopped. Currently,
master mode remains set (from start routine).

Note for anyone noting that this is a breaking change, this is on

is no gain in using two different (but identical) channel descriptions.

Add suspend and resume operations for being used by optional power
management.
The suspend function is switching off an GPIO which can be used by the
hardware to switch power off. The resume function is switching the GPIO
on and sleeps an adjustable time to give the device a chance to be up
and running.
If activated the driver gets into autosuspend after some time of
inactivity.

This patch adds the LOW_PASS_FILTER_3DB_FREQUENCY attribute
in iio_chan_spec for each channel. The used filters are sinc3
or sinc4. The filter type with the highest output data rate
is used when setting a low pass frequency in the channel's sysfs.

This driver handles two different Sharp sensors that have been
proposed for merging to the mainline kernel over the years, and
already has a limited proximity-only driver in the input
subsystem.
These components are completely different from the confusingly
similarly named Sharp GP2AP020A00F, for which we have a driver
in drivers/iio/light/gp2ap020a00f.c
The two components GP2AP002A00F and GP2AP002S00F are
distinctively different but similar: they share the same set of
registers but differ slightly in the I2C protocol.
Instead of the approach by the previous input driver, we create
a combined IIO proximity and light sensor driver.
The plan is to merge this driver and delete the input driver.
The pieces for the driver are picked all over the place after
researching and grepping through a few different vendor trees
and driver submissions.
We merge it under the light sensors because:
- It has similarities with the Capella CM3605 light sensor and
proximity driver which is there.
- It is related to the GP2AP020A00F driver which is also there.
This driver was tested with the Samsung GT-S7710 mobile phone
which has the GP2AP002S00F proximity sensor mounted.
The suspend/resume cycle will disable the interrupt from the
sensor. If someone would desire to use this interrupt for
wakeup, the driver will need modifications.

Use devm_reset_control_get_optional_exclusive() instead of
devm_reset_control_get_exclusive() as reset controller is optional.
Nevertheless if reset controller is expected but reports an
error, propagate the error code to the caller. In such case
a nice error trace is emitted unless we're deferring the probe
operation.

Hardware could be physically mounted in any possible direction and
userpspace needs to be aware of the mounting orientation in order to
process sensor's data correctly. In particular this helps iio-sensor-proxy
to report display's orientation properly on a phone/tablet devices.

Ad7124 data-sheet specifies that the falling edge
of the DOUT line should be used for an interrupt.
The current irq flag (IRQF_TRIGGER_LOW) used will
cause unwanted behaviour. When enabling the interrupt
it will fire once because the DOUT line is already low.
This will make the driver to read an unfinished conversion
from the chip.
This patch sets the irq type to the one specified in
the data-sheet.

Before this patch the ad_sigma_delta implementation hardcoded
the irq trigger type to low, assuming that all Sigma-Delta ADCs
have the same interrupt-type.
This patch allows all drivers using the ad_sigma_delta layer to set the
irq trigger type to the one specified in the datasheet.

In a recent change to the SPI subsystem [1], a new `delay` struct was added
to replace the `delay_usecs`. This change replaces the current `delay_usecs`
with `delay` for this driver.
The `spi_transfer_delay_exec()` function [in the SPI framework] makes sure
that both `delay_usecs` & `delay` are used (in this order to preserve
backwards compatibility).

Since we have access to the struct device_driver and thus to the ID table,
there is no need to supply special parameters to st_sensors_of_name_probe().
Besides that we have a common API to get driver match data, there is
no need to do matching separately for OF and ACPI.
Taking into consideration above, simplify the ST sensors code.

The commit 41c128cb25 ("iio: st_gyro: Add lsm9ds0-gyro support")
assumes that gyro in LSM9DS0 is the same as others with 0xd4 WAI ID,
but datasheet tells slight different story, i.e. the first scale factor
for the chip is 245 dps, and not 250 dps.
Correct this by introducing a separate settings for LSM9DS0.

According to the data sheet the ambient sensor's scale is 0.12 lux/step
(not 0.024 lux/step as used by vcnl4200) when the integration time is
80ms. The integration time is currently hardcoded in the driver to that
value.

Previous versions of `iio_compute_scan_bytes` only aligned each element
to its own length (i.e. its own natural alignment). Because multiple
consecutive sets of scan elements are buffered this does not work in
case the computed scan bytes do not align with the natural alignment of
the first scan element in the set.
This commit fixes this by aligning the scan bytes to the natural
alignment of the largest scan element in the set.

IIO triggered buffer depends on IIO buffer which is missing from Kconfig
file. This should go unnoticed most of the time because there's a
chance something else has already enabled buffers. In some rare cases
though one might experience kbuild warnings about unmet direct
dependencies and build failures due to missing symbols.
Fix this by selecting IIO_BUFFER explicitly.

At the moment, attempting to probe a device with ST_LSM6DS3_ID
(e.g. using the st,lsm6ds3 compatible) fails with:
st_lsm6dsx_i2c 1-006b: unsupported whoami [69]
... even though 0x69 is the whoami listed for ST_LSM6DS3_ID.
This happens because st_lsm6dsx_check_whoami() also attempts
to match unspecified (zero-initialized) entries in the "id" array.
ST_LSM6DS3_ID = 0 will therefore match any entry in
st_lsm6dsx_sensor_settings (here: the first), because none of them
actually have all 12 entries listed in the "id" array.
Avoid this by additionally checking if "name" is set,
which is only set for valid entries in the "id" array.
Note: Although the problem was introduced earlier it did not surface until
commit 52f4b1f196 ("iio: imu: st_lsm6dsx: add support for accel/gyro unit of lsm9ds1")
because ST_LSM6DS3_ID was the first entry in st_lsm6dsx_sensor_settings.

This patch fixes device tree channel configuration.
ad7124 driver reads channels configuration from the device tree.
It expects to find channel specifications as child nodes.
Before this patch ad7124 driver assumed that the child nodes are parsed
by for_each_available_child_of_node in the order 0,1,2,3...
This is wrong and the real order of the children can be seen by running:
dtc -I fs /sys/firmware/devicetree/base on the machine.
For example, running this on an rpi 3B+ yields the real
children order: 4,2,0,7,5,3,1,6
Before this patch the driver assigned the channel configuration
like this:
- 0 <- 4
- 1 <- 2
- 2 <- 0
........
For example, the symptoms can be observed by connecting the 4th channel
to a 1V tension and then reading the in_voltage0-voltage19_raw sysfs
(multiplied of course by the scale) one would see that channel 0
measures 1V and channel 4 measures only noise.
Now the driver uses the reg property of each child in order to
correctly identify to which channel the parsed configuration
belongs to.

Add helper function to detect the number of channels to output
in trigger handler. This is based on IIO_TIMESTAMP channel being the
delimiter between input and output channels.

The adis library only allows to define a `startup_delay` which for some
devices is enough. However, other devices define different timeouts with
significantly different timings which could lead to devices to not wait
enough time or to wait a lot more than necessary (which is not
efficient). This patch introduces a new timeout struct that must be
passed into `adis_init()`. There are mainly, for now, three timeouts
used. This is also an introductory patch with the goal of refactoring
`adis_initial_startup()`. New driver's (eg: adis16480, adis16460) are
replicating code for the device initial setup. With some changes (being
this the first one) we can pass this to `adis_initial_startup()`.

dma_request_slave_channel() is a wrapper on top of dma_request_chan()
eating up the error code.
The dma_request_chan() is the standard API to request slave channel,
clients should be moved away from the legacy API to allow us to retire
them.
